Aljamain Sterling still hasn't signed contract for catchweight bout with Renan Barao

Tom Taylor - July 2, 2017

Originally, Aljamain Sterling expected to fight Renan Barao at bantamweight at UFC 214 this July 29. Unfortunately, the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) ultimately decided to forbid Barao from fighting at bantamweight given his previous difficulty cutting to the weight class. As such, Sterling was asked to meet Barao at a 140-pound catchweight. Will the UFC start promoting Aljamain Sterling more now that he has re-signed?

Russell Ess - February 15, 2016

It seems like many of the MMA media outlets want to get undefeated bantamweight Aljamain Sterling’s name out there, but are lacking any help from the UFC. Even UFC color commentator Joe Rogan is puzzled why Sterling has not gotten a bigger marketing push from the UFC. The 26-year-old from New York dubbed “The Funkmaster” was shopping around the MMA Market during his free agency after his contract with the UFC was fulfilled. Unlike Benson Henderson who decided to go with Bellator MMA, Sterling re-signed a contract with the UFC.
